Wild 6–4 Battle Against SCU Heat

There’s no such thing as a quiet night when Coastal Kings FC faces SCU Heat.
This one followed the script, chaotic, physical, and full of moments that swung the match in both directions. The Kings edged ahead 2–1 by halftime, looking composed and in control after weathering early pressure.
Five minutes into the second half, the match reset at 2–2. Then everything unraveled. SCU Heat went on a three-goal run that flipped the game on its head. A penalty kick, a clear offsides that went uncalled by the assistant referee, and a 25-yard strike pushed the Heat out to a 5–2 lead.
Then the storm came.

A 40-minute weather delay halted momentum, but when play resumed, the Kings came out swinging. Two goals in the opening ten minutes of the restart cut the deficit to 5–4 and brought the match back within reach. But controversy struck again. Another missed offsides call led directly to a Heat goal, extending the lead to 6–4.
Despite the late push, the Kings couldn’t close the gap. The officiating drew frustration, but the result stands. In a match full of swings, the Kings showed fight, but not enough to overcome both the Heat and the moments that went against them.
Coach’s Notes – David Koebler:“This is going to be a game we protest to the league. There are standards that are supposed to be followed. Lightning was striking around the field and nothing was done. We were told there was a warning system at the facility that never went off, even after I raised concerns multiple times. When they wanted to restart, we were essentially told take the field or forfeit. That’s not a position a club should be put in. As for the match itself, it’s always a battle with Heat. They’re a dangerous group and they’ve had our number more often than not. But this game flipped in a ten-minute stretch while lightning was active around the field. There’s also a growing issue with assistant referees being out of position on offsides. The speed of play in this league is ahead of where some crews are right now. It’s becoming a real problem.”
The KINGS look to get back into the win column against Pre-College DA next week at home.
