Kings Battle to 2–2 Draw, Hold Firm in Fourth Place

The Coastal Kings FC battled to a 2–2 draw over the weekend, earning a valuable point that keeps them in fourth place in the UPSL Premier standings. With only the top four teams advancing to the postseason, the result ensures the Kings remain in playoff position as the season enters its final stretch.

After conceding early, Zack Hargreaves brought the Kings level with a composed finish to make it 1–1 in the first half. Chris Comber then gave the Kings a 2–1 lead midway through the second half, capitalizing on his fourth goal of the season off a corner. Despite continued pressure and several chances to seal the win, the opposition equalized late, forcing the Kings to settle for a share of the points.

The result extends a run of competitive performances from the Kings, who continue to dictate play through control and patience in possession. Despite recent results not fully reflecting their dominance, the team’s consistency and determination have kept them firmly in playoff contention.

Head Coach David Koebler praised his side’s performance but acknowledged the frustration of another match where the scoreline didn’t match the team’s control:

“Our boys continue to dominate and control the game, like they did today with 70% possession,” Koebler said. “In all but two games this year we have held possession significantly more than our opponents. We’ve been very unlucky in multiple games where the score line hasn’t fully reflected our performance. That said, hats off to our opponents—this is a talented division. When you only get a handful of chances to change the outcome of a game and your opponent capitalizes at a high percentage, it doesn’t make our job any easier. We were obviously the better team today and are not happy with the tie, but a point is a point and every point counts. We look forward to the last three battles we have this season. It’s going to be a fight to the end—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”

With three matches remaining, the Kings remain firmly in the playoff hunt. The team will look to turn their control of possession into victories as they prepare for the final stretch of the regular season.
